Wilbur Gene Helms

Wilbur G. Helms, age 72 of 772 Helms Rd., Abbeville, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.Reverend Wayne Martin and Reverend Joel Owens will officiate.Interment will be in the Christian Hill Cemetery. Mr. Helms was born on April 9, 1936 in Wilcox County.He was son of the late John Wesley Helms and Abbie Belle Statham Helms.He was a retired Forrester with the Georgia Forrestry Commission.He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include:wife-Bernice Helms of Abbeville, sons Michael (Lynn) Helms of Abbeville and Jeff (Cindy) Helms of Pitts, brother-Ed Helms of Abbeville, sisters-Jeanette Gordon of Rochelle and Jackie Carden of Leesburg, 3-grandchildren-Alex, Caitlin, and Wesley Helms and Alecia Bennett. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday in the funeral home.
