Wesley Bowen

Wesley Bowen, age 81 of Abbeville, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 in the Pineview Health Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 24th in the Abbeville United Methodist Church.Visitation will be in the Church Social Hall from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.Reverend Debbie Cone and Reverend Gary Carter will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Stubbs Cemetery. Mr. Bowen was born on December 14, 1930 in Hartselle, Alabama.He had lived in Abbeville since 1975 moving from Jesup.He was son of the late Wallace Clayton Bowen and Louise Johnson Bowen.He was Owner/Operator of Smith's Department Store from 1976 until 1991.He was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church.He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.He was a member of the first Cavalry Division Association.He was preceded in death by a brother-Joe Bowen in 2011 and his step-mother-Evelyn Mays Bowen. Survivors include:wife-Patsy Bowen of Abbeville, sister-Gean (Ray) Haddock of Florence, Alabama and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church Building Fund, 233 S. Broad St., Abbeville, Ga. 31001 or the Stubbs Cemetery Fund, C/O Carol Culpepper, 113 Riverside Dr., Abbeville, Ga. 31001. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
