Wayne was born on March 19, 1945 to the late Alene Yancey Wilson and Frank Wilson in Abbeville, Georgia. He was a proud Abbeville Wildcat, class of 1963. He was very proud of his community and dedicated his life to serving others within it. Wayne was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher as well as cooked numerous meals for the church. He gave morning announcements every Sunday, acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries, and cracking jokes in the process. He always knew how to light a room and put a smile on others' faces.
Wayne was known as "Daddy", "Papa", "Uncle Wayne", and "E. Wayne". No matter where he went or what he was doing, he could always make a connection with someone. His way of impacting others came through his servant heart, his love for the outdoors, and fellowship with family and friends. Wayne worked at the Warner Robins Air Force Base for many years as a flight chief before retiring in 2002. Afterwards, he continued to work under contract for many years. When Wayne wasn't frying fish, he was catching them. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He was also a huge part of the success of the annual Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival. He oversaw the hog baying component of the festival and was dedicated to the outpour of community it provided to the town of Abbeville.
Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents, as well as his older sister Barbara Harrell. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diane Daniel Wilson; his three children, Jeffery Wilson, Jennifer Wilson, and Daniel Wilson; his two grandchildren, Haley Wilson and Ty Wilson (Taylor); he is also survived by his first great grandchild, Henley Elizabeth Wilson, who was born on September 25, 2023; his sister, Frankie Sue Keene (Larry); his sister-in-law, Lynette Daniels; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend of 60+ years Harry Goodman (Gail).
