Tommy Pope, age 87 of 3612 Harvey Rd., Abbeville passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at his residence.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2009 in the Cannonville Baptist Church.The Reverend Jimmy McDuffie and Reverend Roy Taylor will officiate.Interment will be in the Cannonville Cemetery. Mr. Pope was born on November 23, 1921 in Wilcox County.He was son of the late Acie Pope and Cora Dell Pope.He was a member and deacon at Cannonville Baptist Church.He was a retired farmer and served his country with honor during World War II in the United States Army. Survivors include:wife-Helen G. Pope of Abbeville, daughters-Judy (Don) Roberts, Memorie (Edwin) Lee, and Keema (Don) Browning all of Abbeville, brothers-Albert Pope of Rochelle and Bobby Pope of Boston, sisters-Mae Wertanen of Rochelle, Janie Anderson of Abbeville, Ola Nell Gibbs of Rochelle, Mildred Christian of Winder, Ruby Hannah of Rochelle, and Mary Bloodworth of Pineview, 5-grandchildren and 9-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, January 9, 2009 in the funeral home. The family request that donations be sent to Cannonville Baptist Church, C/O Edwin Lee, 627 Wayne Keen Rd., Abbeville, Ga. 31001 or flowers will be accepted. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle has charge of arrangements.
