Thomas W. "Tommy" Ritter

Thomas W. “Tommy” Ritter, age 87 of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 2nd in the Abbeville First Baptist Church.Visitation will be one hour before the service at 1:00 PM in the church.Reverend Chuck Taylor, Reverend Chuck Hollingsworth, Reverend Jim Faircloth and Reverend Tony Dixon will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Stubbs Cemetery. Mr. Ritter was born on April 29, 1926 in Tampa, Florida having lived in Wilcox County since 1951. He was son of the late Thomas W. Ritter, Sr. and Hallie Groves Ritter.He was a retired Insurance Agent with Gulf Life/American General with 30 years of service.He was an avid outdoorsman and played football and basketball with the University of Tampa and the Florida Gators.He was the first Forestry Ranger in Wilcox County and served his country with honor in the United States Army-Air Force during World War II.He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Ritter in 1990. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Conley Ritter. Survivors include:son-Warren (Alicia) Ritter of Fitzgerald, companion-Jewell Hollingsworth of Abbeville, grandchildren-Amy (Ray) Teston of Patterson and Michael (Emily) Hughes of Patterson and 2-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be:Chuck Hollingsworth, Shane Bloodsworth, Adam Hollingsworth, Allen Davidson, Jason Bloodsworth, Brandon Bloodsworth and Charlie Coleman. Music will be provided by Kay Dorsey, Dianne Faircloth, Tim Moorhouse and the congregation. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
