Terry Leon Barefoot

Terry Leon Barefoot, age 64, of Pitts, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023.  He grew up in and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.  He was employed with the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation as a supervisor.  He was a former employee of Pepsi Cola Corp. in Cordele.  Growing up, Terry enjoyed farming alongside his father and grandfather.

Terry was born January 30, 1959 in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to the late Jeral and Rudena Cranford Barefoot.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Barefoot Sutton.  Survivors include Janet Barefoot;  his daughter Brooke (Brian) Thompson;  his granddaughters, Haven (Tyler) Dorman and Ava Thompson; and his brother, Gary Barefoot.

Terry loved his family.  He loved his job and was a dedicated employee.  Terry enjoyed reading and passed his love of books down to his daughter.  He had interests in geography, history, politics, and science.  He loved reading his Georgia Backroads magazines.  Bird season was an exciting time for him, and he enjoyed hosting dove shoots in the back field for years.  Terry enjoyed cooking on his smoker and barbecuing.  For years, his late father, Jeral, and he would cook dozens of pieces of meat at Christmas to give away to family, friends, and neighbors.  He loved his dog, Sophie.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 6th at 3:00 p. m. in the Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in Pitts, with Rev. Jimmy Black and Rev. Joel Owens officiating.  A visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45 p. m. in the Pleasant View Baptist Church.
