Richard W. Knight, age 71 of Abbeville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence.Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 7th in the Abbeville First Baptist Church.Reverend Tony Dixon and Reverend Jim Faircloth will officiate.Interment will be in the Stubbs Cemetery.Visitation will be one hour before the service at 1:00 PM in the church. Mr. Knight was born on February 12, 1941 in Abbeville.He was son of the late Dan W. Knight and Mary Lou Smith Knight.He was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church and the Abbeville Western Light Masonic Lodge #272.He was a correction officer with the Department of Corrections State of Georgia.He was owner/operator of Knight Milk Co. and former employee of The Wilcox County Sheriff's Department.He was an avid reader and wood craftsman.He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Knight in 2009 and a brother, Tommy Knight in 2012. Survivors include:Wife of 49 years-Ruth Knight of Abbeville, daughters-Lisa (Ronnie) Shawver of Winston Salem, NC and Dawn (Eddie) Whitehead of Eufaula, Alabama, sister-Cindy Thompson of Abbeville, step-mother-Kathleen Knight of Abbeville, step-brothers-Jimmy McAnally of Abbeville and John McAnally of Fitzgerald, step-sister-Deloris Young of McRae, 5-grandchildren-Allison, Ron, Jase, Kody and Saylor and his beloved dog, Missy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Abbeville First Baptist Church or the Blue Gray Hospice in Fitzgerald. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
