Paul Nelson Mcwhorter, Sr.

Paul Nelson McWhorter, Sr., age 82, of Rochelle, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, in the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.  He was retired from the shelling department of Doster Peanut Co., and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle where he was a former Sunday School teacher.  Nelson was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.

He was born April 28, 1940 in Rochelle (Owensboro Community) to the late J.B. McWhorter and Mardelle Stonecypher McWhorter.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Charles McWhorter and John B. McWhorter, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell McWhorter of Rochelle; his son, Paul McWhorter of Owensboro; his daughters, Denise Greene (Tony) of Rochelle, Paula McLeod of Pineview, and Sandy Exley (Phillip) of Americus; a brother, Sidney McWhorter of Owensboro; two sisters, Lillie Gibbs (Raleigh) of Abbeville, and Elvira Biggers of Rebecca; his grandchildren, Bridgette Clements (Alex), Casey Greene, Anthony Greene, Candi McLeod, Mart McLeod,  Bailey McLeod, Owen Exley, Luke Exley, and J.B. McWhorter; four great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jackie McWhorter of Rochelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 24 ^th , at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rochelle, 701 Gordon St., with Rev. Joey Boney and Rev. David Clark officiating.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Social Hall of the First Baptist Church.
