Olen Lamar Land

Mr. Olen Lamar Land age 87 of 77 Gourd Rd., Rochelle, Ga. passed away Thursday, September 25 in the Crisp County Hospital. Funeral services 3:00 PM Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Griffin and Rev. Joel Owens officiating. Mr. Land was born on June 9, 1921 in Wilcox County.He was son of the late George Land and Clyde Cawley Land.He was a charter member and deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church.He was retired from Civil Service Robins Air Force Base and was known as "The Gourd Man."He served his country with honor during World War II in the United States Army Air Force.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hesper Gibbs Land. Survivors include;wife-Beatrice L. Land of Rochelle, son-David (Barbara) Land of Beebe, Arkansas, step-sons-Rev.Mike (Robin) Brown of Cross City, Florida and Allan (Denise) Brown of Florahome, Florida, daughter-Mary L. (Bobby) Adams of Rochelle and step-daughter-Sandra B. (Alan) Weiss of Jacksonville, Florida, brother-Cawley (Odelia) Land of Stockbridge, Ga., sister-Sara L. Garmon of Mableton, Ga., 10-grandchildren, 8-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Saturday in the funeral home. Frazier and Son Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
