Melody Lynn Sercer, age 28, of Collins, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic wreck in Claxton on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.Originally from Rochelle, she was born on May 12, 1988, in Pulaski County to George William Sercer, Jr., and Brenda Davis Sercer, both of whom are deceased. Melody Lynn was an Honor Graduate of the 2006 Wilcox County High School Class.Although she was extremely active in numerous clubs, she also enjoyed many Church and community events.She had a passion for Relay for Life since she lost her mother to cancer at the early age of 5.Then, Jump Rope for Heart was significant because of her father’s death when she was in the ninth grade.Her special love for horses and horse competitions were important as well.A previous member of the Rochelle United Methodist church, she surely enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with the children’s ministry during the Vacation Bible School programs. After graduation, Melody spent the next two years at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia.She also worked for Carter Burgers in Cordele, Rochelle Place in Rochelle, and enjoyed her pit bull Percy, as well as her horse Jeepers, the last gift given to her by her beloved daddy. In the summer of 2012, Melody Lynn moved to Collins, Georgia, and she began working at the Salvation Army in Vidalia.She loved all the employees, but one special person stood out and became one of her dearest friends.Her name is Linda Quigley.Linda, as well as her family, welcomed Melody with open arms. Her greatest accomplishment and the love of her life took place on August 20, 2015, when Kelley Rogers was born to David Rogers and Melody Lynn Sercer.Another important event in her life was rededicating her life and becoming a member of the Lyons First Baptist Church. Melody Lynn always enjoyed working with people and she became a part of the Vidalia Dream Center ladies.Mrs. Peggy NeeSmith, as well as all of the other volunteers, provided great support, daily inspirations, true love, and God’s word in understanding the meaning of devotion, responsibility, and Christian values. Melody had recently begun a new career at Smart Fit in Toombs Central as a Quality Control Inspector.Deceased relatives include Destiny Cheyenne Sercer, niece, Rochelle; Kelley Dale Sercer, uncle, Rochelle; Delbert Davis, uncle, Helena. Survivors include David Kelley Rogers, son, Collins; David Neal Rogers, fiancé, Collins; Bill Sercer, brother, Rochelle; Dorothy Sercer, sister-in-law, Rochelle; Michelle Davis Lowery, sister, Helena; Linda Davis, maternal grandmother, Helena; Chris (Macie) Sercer, nephew, Rochelle; Nikolas Davis, nephew, Helena; Anterika Lynn Davis, niece, Helena; Jace Sercer, great-nephew, Rochelle; Rita Davis, aunt, Helena; Jimmy Davis, uncle, Helena; Bob and Patricia S. Bennett, aunt and uncle, Pitts; Joe and Janet Sercer, aunt and uncle, Rochelle; Cindy Sercer, aunt, Soperton.Cousins of Melody Lynn include her immediate Sercer cousins, Olivia Sercer, Rochelle; Kelley and Justin Hanner, Rebecca; Shelley and Kim Kelley, Rochelle; Kristey and Dustin Davis, Rochelle; and their families; Ty Spell, Kelley’s grandmother, Collins; Ruby Rogers, Kelley’s sister; Michelle (Jon) Davis, Kelley’s aunt and uncle and their family. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lyons with Reverend Mitch Bellflower and Peggy NeeSmith officiating.Music will be provided by Gwen Williams and Emily Williams.Honorary pallbearers will be the Salvation Army staff and the ladies of the Dream Center.Burial will follow in the Rochelle Morningside Cemetery, Sercer Family plot at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Eric Sizemore and Pastor Wayne Martin officiating.The WCHS Class of 2006 will be recognized as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 until just prior to the service.
