Melinda Bruce Phillips

Melinda Bruce Phillips, 69,  of Carrabelle. Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 1,2024 at her residence. Melinda was born May 31,1955 to Mr. and Mrs. Wyche Bruce of Rochelle. Melinda graduated from Wilcox County High School In 1973. She attended Georgia Southwestern University and received a bachelor of psychology degree.  She worked as a social worker for Georgia Department of Family and Children Services until 1988. She graduated from Mercer University's School of Law in 1988 and began practicing law. Melinda worked with Simpson and Gray Law Firm in Tifton, Georgia before deciding to open her own law firm. She successfully practiced family law for 22 years.

While working and living in Tifton, she met the love of her life, Earl Phillips. Melinda enjoyed being with her family and friends. She lived life to the fullest, and she was living out her dream residing on the Gulf coast in Carrabelle.

Melinda is survived by her son, George William (Bill) Sercer, III of Rochelle, sister Ann Elrod of Eufaula, Alabama, brothers, William Bruce of Cummings, and Robert Bruce of Rochelle, grandson, Chris Sercer of Rochelle, great-grandchildren, Jace and Kay'cee Sercer of Rochelle, and long- time companion, John McClary of Carrabelle, Florida.  Melinda was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wyche Bruce; her husband, EarI Phillips, her brother, Paul Bruce, and granddaughter, Destiny Cheyenne Sercer.

A memorial service to celebrate Melinda's life is planned for Saturday, October 26,2024 at 2:00 pm at Christian Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm prior to the service Saturday. Pastor Jacob Martin will officiate and Bill Sercer will do a eulogy.
