Mayor Ralph T. Sutton

Ralph T. Sutton, age 85 former Mayor of Rochelle, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 in the Cordelia Manor Personal Care Home.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 22nd in the First Baptist Church of Rochelle.Reverend Jay Moore and Reverend Richard Compton will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Morningside Cemetery. Mayor Sutton was born on April 7, 1934 in Rochelle, Ga.He was son of the late Thurman Sutton and Gussie Maddox Sutton.He was Mayor of the City of Rochelle from January 1, 1972 until April 2, 2008 and was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle.He was former Volunteer E. M. T. with the Wilcox County EMS and was Emeritus Board Member of the Wilcox County State Bank. He was a Delegate to the 1972 Republican National Convention. He was Vice Chairman of the Board from September 1995-January 1996 and was Chairman of the Board from January 1996-January 2015.He was former member of the Rural Development Authority Board and the Wilcox County Board of Health.He was preceded in death by his wife, Lonnie Pritchett Sutton in 2015 and hiswife, Barbara Wilson Sutton in 1961 and a brother, George Sutton. Survivors include:son-Mike (Katrina) Sutton of Rochelle, daughters-Lynn (Jim) Ball of Hawkinsville and Lori (Jeff) Hooks of St. Augustine, Florida, brothers-James (Jean) Sutton of Rochelle and Clifford (Beth) Sutton of Warner Robins, sister-Clarice Morrison of Rochelle, grandchildren-Matthew (Virginia) Ball, Ryan (Brittany) Ball, Kelsey (David) Mohrfeld, Emily Sutton, Macey Sutton, Nathalie (Robert) Shanahan, Nic Q Hooks and Jeffrey Hooks and great-grandchildren-Addison Miller, Jackson Jago, Thatcher Ball and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday, November 21st in the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the residence of Mike and Katrina Sutton, 584 3rd Avenue, Rochelle, Ga.
