Mary Rhodes Doster

Funeral services for Mary Rhodes Doster, 91 will be held at 3:00 PMSunday, August 14, 2011 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church near Abbeville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Dr. Napp Granade and Rev. Jim Wiley will officiate. Mrs. Doster died at her home on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Born Nov 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Alice Virginia Holt Rhodes. She was a housewife, farmer, and for a time owned and operated a ceramic shop. She served 11 years as Little River Associational WMU Director where she helped to begin WMU’s in different churches within the association and made many friends. She taught Sunday School, led Vacation Bible School and many Bible studies. She was an avid genealogy researcher in the days before computers, spending many hours visiting cemeteries and searching through books. She was preceded in death by her husband P.E. “Boots” Doster, Jr, her daughter Mary Alice Cohen, her grandsons Adam Bridgers and Benjamin Ray, and her sisters Jean Bloodsworth, Ruby Mann, Bernice Moore, Virginia Glenn and Marie Cohen. Mrs. Doster is survived by 3-daughters Eugenia Helms, Abbeville; Katherine (Richard) Ray, Cordele; Marty (Ken) McKie, Rochelle; 9 grandchildren: David (Tammy) Selph, Dan (Linda), Doug Selph, Phleet (Pam) Cohen, Mitch (Lorrie) Cohen, Heath (Tracy) Ray, Tammy (Kirby) Schaffer, Matt Bridgers and Amanda (Doug) McKenzie. 14- great-grandchildren and 5- great-great grandchildren; her sister Nora Ellen Boling of Hawkinsville and a brother Bill Rhodes of Abbeville. The family will be at her home on Cannonville Road, Abbeville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, Alzheimer’s Disease Research or Crisp Regional Hospice.
