Marguerite Holt Tippins

Marguerite Holt Tippins, age 92 of 1552 First Avenue, Rochelle, passed away Sunday, March 14 at her residence.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 16 in the Rochelle United Methodist Church.Rev. Matthew Yarbrough and Rev. Steve Giglio will officiate.Interment will be in the Morningside Cemetery. Mrs. Tippins was born on January 27, 1918 in Turner County.She was the daughter of the late William Kelly Holt and Maria Studstill Holt.Her husband was the late Leroy G. Tippins Jr., Who died in June, 2007 after 67 years of marriage.Mrs. Tippins has lived in Baxley, Georgia where her husband was employed with the U.S. Forestry Department.Because of World War II, the next move was to Warrenburg, MO then to Evansville, IN and then transferred to Aberdeen, NC.After the war, she moved to Atlanta where Leroy was Regional Manager with Allied Chemical Company followed by a transfer to Columbia, SC.When Leroy retired, she and Leroy moved back to Rochelle where she helped her husband who then worked for Nitron Chemical Corporation. Mrs. Tippins owned and operated a gift shop before her marriage and later became a kindergarten teacher here in Rochelle. She graduated from Rochelle High School and attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, a national sorority.She attended art classes at the Columbia School of Art in South Carolina. Mrs. Tippins was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Dogwood Garden Club, the Rochelle Women’s Club and the Rochelle United Methodist Church where she taught the Juniors Sunday School. Survivors include: niece, Mary C. (D.C.) Tunison, Adel; nephews, Kelly (Eleanor) Holt of Cleveland, Ohio; Forrest M. (Billie) Holt of Gulf Breeze, Florida; Matt (Janice) Estes of Rochelle and a number of great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 PMMonday at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the Tippins residence at 1552 First Avenue, Rochelle. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle has charge of arrangements.
