Margaret H. Pearce, age 83, of Rochelle, died Saturday, August 29, 2020.She was born in Rochelle, on April 19, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lois Cook Holliday.Mrs. Pearce was a lifelong resident of Wilcox County except for two years living in Bethesda, Maryland, after her first marriage to Edward G. McKinney in 1957.The couple resided in Bethesda until 1959 when they returned to Rochelle.While in Maryland, Mrs. Pearce worked for the Secret Service.In 1975 she married L.W. Pearce, Jr. With 35 years of service, Mrs. Pearce retired from the United States Department of Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service on June 30, 1993.After retiring she enjoyed traveling, baking, and teaching her granddaughters how to make cakes. Mrs. Pearce was a 1955 graduate of Rochelle High School.She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle and was very active in her church.She taught Sunbeams, sang in the choir, and was in the WMU and received their Faithful Service Award.She was a member of the Wilcox Rifles Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Alberta Crummey Garden Club, and Woodmen of the World Rochelle Chapter.In 1990, she was honored as Wilcox County Woman of the Year. She is survived by her daughter, Tara (Dennis) Shedd of Rochelle; granddaughters, Mary-Margaret "Maggie" Shedd, and Mollie Shedd of Rochelle; brother, Cook (Sandra) Holliday of Monroe; sister-in-law, Wanda Holliday of Rochelle; brother-in-law, Melvin Paulk of Sylvester; a niece and five nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, L.W. Pearce, Jr.; sister, Mary H. Paulk, and brother, Bobby T. Holliday, Sr. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 31st at Frazier & Son Funeral Home.Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rochelle with Rev. Jay Moore officiating.Music will be provided by Ricky Smarr.Interment will follow at the family plot in Morningside Cemetery.Serving as pallbearers are Bobby T. Holliday, Jr., Mallard C. Holliday, Ryan K. Holliday, Myron H. Paulk, Merlin T. Paulk, Mike Copeland, James Gibbs, John McDonald, and Matt Estes. The family would like to thank Sherry Bloodworth and all the staff at Shady Pines for the loving and excellent care given to "Ms. Margaret" and to thank her personal caregivers, Amanda Steed Perez, Quinetta Brown, and Kristi Underwood.The family would also like to thank Pruitt Hospice for the care given to Mrs. Pearce.
