Mackeal (Mac) Howell entered the more immediate presence of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mac was born April 24, 1931 in Wilcox County, Georgia. He was the son of William Harry Howell and Lora Luella McGlamry. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Rhodes, brother, E. T. Howell and two step-sons, Robert Allen Britt, and Kenneth Patrick (Kenney) Britt.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann B. Howell and brother, Wendell (Norma Jean) Howell. Also, he is survived by his son, Jeffery (Missi) Howell of New Orleans and daughter, Cindy (Greg) Keene of Abbeville, Georgia. Mac was the grandfather of four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mac graduated form Pineview High School in Pineview, Georgia where he lettered in Basketball and Baseball. He enjoyed coaching young men and playing baseball at the Pleasant View Recreation Center which was gifted by his father, William Harry Howell as long as it existed as the center.
He was awarded several trophies in the 1980’s for his outstanding talent. Some of the teams were called “Old Timers.” Also, he kept up with many of his classmates for years after graduation and attended class reunions as long as he could.
Mac joined the United States Air Force when he was 23 years old. When he came out, he went to work at Robins Air Force Base, where he remained until he retired. After retiring he worked alongside his brother, E. T. Howell on the farm and took care of the earth. He also worked with the Bow Weevil Eradication Program in Pinehurst, Georgia.
Mac loved people and had many lifelong friends. During this time, he met and married his soul mate, Pat. They enjoyed taking long walks with their dog, Ponda and working on their garden and he was well known for the tomatoes that they grew in their garden. They also organized and were members of the Wilcox Swingers Fine Dancing Club. They were close friends with the members and even took a trip with some members to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This was a trip of a lifetime because they traveled in motorhomes and took two weeks to enjoy. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren stories about his childhood adventures. He especially liked to share about the year he spent in Africa when he retired from Robins Air Force Base. He spent one year in Africa and showed his grandchildren pictures of his in the Nile River and showed them items that he brought back.
Mac and Pat also took his grandchildren fishing and taught them how to catch catfish and clean them. Then they had a fish fry and cooked them.
For his entire life, Mac was an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he was baptized and faithfully served on the Board of Deacons for 43 years. Mac was a man of integrity who believed that dealing honestly with others was of great importance. He attended Church and Sunday School until he was not able.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2025 in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Reverend Danny Allen will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, March 7th in the funeral home.
