Laverne Daniels DeBarry, age 89 of Rochelle, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 17, 2020 in the Morningside Cemetery. Dr. Victor Lyons and Reverend Chuck Taylor will officiate.Visitation will follow the service. Mrs. DeBarry is survived by her husband Herbert F. DeBarry.Most recently, on September 19, 2020 the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage together. Mrs. DeBarry was born on March 18, 1931.Her parents were Odis and Bessie BowmanDaniels.She is survived by one sister, Effie Lou Daniels Gordon of Rochelle, as well as three nieces and one nephew. Mrs. DeBarry was the mother of Delaine Graham (Tommy) McDonald and James Hensley (Gail) Graham all of Rochelle.She was a loving Gran to four grandchildren:Lee McDonald of Rochelle, Lance (Cindy) McDonald of Rome, Renee’ Graham (Tom) Ingram of Dawson, and Heather Graham (Chris) Hood of Mableton.Grand is survived by her beloved eight great grandchildren:Conner McDonald, Lucas McDonald, Judge McDonald, Max McDonald, Hensley Ingram, Analyn Ingram, Graham Hood and Marshall Hood. For 25 years, Mrs. DeBarry was employed at Warner Robins Air Force Base.She worked as an electronic instrument repair person.For a time prior to this she had been employed at Madison Shirt Company in Rochelle. Mrs. DeBarry was a loyal and dedicated member of First Avenue Baptist Church of Rochelle.She had served as WMU secretary, a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Adult Choir during her years of attendance. Mrs. DeBarry was a devoted mother and grandmother.Her greatest love was her family.She leaves a beautiful legacy of selfless love to her children and grandchildren.She had a heart of gold and embraced everyone she knew with kindness. Mrs. DeBarry was a wonderful cook and noted for her delicious Chicken and Dressing, Brunswick Stew, and Pecan Pies.Her children and grandchildren have all tried to master these dishes.While coming close with their determined efforts, they still lacked that special “Laverne (Gran) touch”.Her kitchen was always filled with delectable aromas.She was eager to share her tasteful dishes with family, neighbors, and members of her church family. Mrs. DeBarry crocheted beautifully and was a skilled seamstress.She rarely sat with idle hands.She always had her thread and needles in her lap working away.She generously shared her handiwork;she gifted newborns with baby blankets, family members with afghans, and newly weds with crochet pieces.Her homemade needlework gifts were expressions of her love and treasures to all who received them. Gardening was both a relaxing and rewarding hobby for Mrs. DeBarry.She enjoyed working with her flowers and maintained a lovely yard.Her backyard was filled with varieties of lush beautiful Hydrangeas. Mrs. DeBarry was an encourager to her family.She was the best teacher to her children and grandchildren, always leading them by Christian example to be kind, forgiving, compassionate, and loving to one another. The family wishes to thank Reflections Hospice of Cordele for the superb and efficient care they gave to Mother.We were overwhelmed with the compassionate and caring attitude shown by these healthcare professionals. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Patricia Singleton, Sheneka Grace, Betty Ailer, Victoria Cheese, Evette Coley, Pam Brown, Quinetta Brown, and Jackie Balom.We shall ever be indebted to these caregivers, who so lovingly and kindly, cared for our mother throughout her lengthy illness.Patricia Singleton has been caring for Mrs. DeBarry and cooking delicious meals for Mr. DeBarry for over two years.Her reliable and dependable assistance had been and is greatly appreciated.
