Laura Hamilton Peebles, age 91 of Pitts, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at her residence.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 24th in the Pitts Baptist Church.The visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the church before the service.Reverend Jim Faircloth and Reverend Bill Kent will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Pitts Cemetery. Mrs. Peebles was born on August 14, 1921 in Cordele.She was daughter of the late Joseph Alton Hamilton and Christine Royal Hamilton and was the oldest of 5 children.She attended Georgia Southwestern College, Valdosta State, University of Georgia and Georgia State Womens College.Laura went on to become a school teacher, teaching in Pitts, Vienna, Cordele and Hawkinsville.She was also a loyal member of Pitts Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School.She was a dedicated member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Eastern Star.She was also a devoted wife of 64 years to L. O. Peebles, Sr. (deceased).The mother of 4 (Alton Clyde “Judge” Peebles (deceased), L. O. “Pete” Peebles, Jr. Furman S. Peebles and Tena L. Peebles, she had 9-grandchidren and 8-great-grandchildren.She is survived by her 3 sisters, Joanne Phillips, Helen Conner and Hortense Sims.She is predeceased by her brother, Joseph Alton Hamilton.Laura’s faith, devotion to others, giving spirit, and selfless nature was illuminated throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that in her memory donations be made to the Baptist Children’s Home or the American Alzheimer’s Association. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
