John Archie Rhodes, age 91, of Abbeville, GA, died at his home on January 14, 2024. He worked for 36 years as an Inventory Management Specialist at Robins AFB and as a Wilcox County Tax Assessor for 16 years. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. John was a faithful and dedicated servant of Lebanon Baptist Church. His hobbies included gardening and fishing on the Ocmulgee River.
John was born on November 25, 1932, in Abbeville, GA, to the late James “Jim” Rhodes and Eva Grace Elder Rhodes. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters: Mary Cason, Jurelle Flowers, Olis Hunter, and Jimmie Pittman; and 1 brother: Cecil Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Henderson Rhodes; his sisters: Pamela Kicklighter (Robert), and Emma Jane Tomberlin (John W.); his children: Johnny Rhodes (Ruth Ann), James Rhodes (Peggy), Joselyn Studstill (Joseph), all of Abbeville, and Darlene Dixon (Mark) of Kathleen; his grandchildren: Johnathan Rhodes (Kristi), Kayla Fuller (Tommy), Heather Hall (Kevin), Matthew Studstill (Sara Beth), Adam Rhodes, all of Abbeville, Brandon Dixon (Alicia) of Grand Forks AFB ND, Chase Dixon (Caty) of Kathleen, and Caleb Studstill (Becky) of Pittsboro NC; his great-grandchildren: Koltson Hall, Lylafae Dixon, Lizzie Mae Fuller, Asher Studstill, Luna Dixon, Kayli Ann Fuller, Skylar Hall, Luke Dixon, Charlotte Studstill, and Iris Studstill.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Lebanon Baptist Church, Abbeville, GA, with Rev. Chuck Taylor and Rev. Bryan Luke officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Frazier & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lebanon Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Moorhouse officiating.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Johnathan Rhodes, Brandon Dixon, Matthew Studstill, Chase Dixon, Caleb Studstill, Adam Rhodes, Tommy Fuller, and Kevin Hall and great-grandson-Koltson Hall. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom Sessions, Daniel Wilson, Ronnie McDuffie, Danny McBryde, Tony Strickland, and Lewis Giddens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Lebanon Baptist Church or the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.
