James W. "Pap" Witherington

March 1, 1919 — June 28, 2018

James W. “Pap” Witherington, age 99 of Pineview, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 in the Northside Villa.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 30th in the Friendship Baptist Church.Visitation will be one hour before the service from 3-4 PM in the church.Reverend Larry Wilbanks will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Witherington was born on March 1, 1919 in Pineview.He was son of the late James Franklin Witherington and Sarah Viola Warren Witherington.He was employed for 18 years as a Production Scheduler with Robins Air Force Base.He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church for 40 years where he served as church clerk for 40 years.He was a Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir, the Charles L. Bass #130 Masonic Lodge and the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 for 74 years.He attended the University of Georgia and Middle Georgia College.He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Reynolds Witherington.He served his country with honor in the United States Army during WWII. Survivors include:sons-James Warren (Martha) Witherington, Jr. of Warner Robins, John M. (JoAnn) Witherington of Pineview and Gary W. (Jan) Witherington of Hampton, daughter-Jan (Larry) Moore of Pineview, brother-Dr. Roy (Sandra) Witherington of Sarasota, Florida, 12-grandchildren, 12-great-grandchildren and 2-great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the donor’s choice. Frazier and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
