James Daniel Sutton, 94, of Rochelle passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2023, at Kramer Baptist Church with Rev. Hicks Brown officiating. Mr. Sutton will be laid to rest at Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Frazier & Son Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Born on October 26, 1929, in Wilcox County, Mr. Sutton was the son of the late Thurman and Gussie Maddox Sutton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers George Sutton and Ralph Sutton, both of Rochelle. Mr. Sutton valiantly served in the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean War. After graduating from Rochelle High School, he continued his educational pursuits receiving his Associates degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, his Bachelors degree from Georgia College and State University, and his Masters degree from the University of Georgia. His strong work ethic led to a successful career at Robins Air Force Base where he retired after over 30 years of service. Mr. Sutton was a devout Christian and a dedicated member of Kramer Baptist Church. He served faithfully in various roles as Chairman of the Deacons and Church Treasurer. He also imparted wisdom to many through his Sunday School teachings over the years. His enduring legacy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Jean Elrod Sutton, and their loving children and their spouses: Danny and Pam Sutton of Rochelle, and Dixie and Marion Lightfoot of Tifton. He is also survived by three cherished grandchildren, Garrett Lightfoot and spouse Joanna Lightfoot of Tifton, Whitney Ensley and spouse Reid Ensley of Tifton, and Cassie Sutton of Athens; four great-grandchildren, Caleb Eubanks, Iva Ensley, Brynn Lightfoot, and Archer Ensley; sister, Clarice S. Morrison of Rochelle and brother, Clifford Sutton and spouse Beth of Roswell. Pallbearers will include Mike Sutton, Mitch Faircloth, Mark Elrod, Eddie Elrod, Stan Rutherford, Tim Rutherford, Roger Laster, and Graham Gordon. The Deacons of Kramer Baptist Church, and Jack Laster, and Austin Martin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
