James G. Rhodes

James G. Rhodes, age 84, a lifelong resident of Rochelle, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, in the Crossview Care Center, Pineview, Georgia.  He was a retired supervisor with Robins Air Force Base, and was a member and Deacon Emeritus at Rochelle First Baptist Church.  James was a former councilman with the City of Rochelle for 12 years; former Mayor of Rochelle for 10 years; and a former member of the Wilcox County School Board.  He was also a former employee with Rooney Bowen Chevrolet in Cordele, and loved to ride horses and race quarter- horses.

James was born April 22, 1939, in Pineview, Georgia, to the late Grady S. Rhodes and Irene Elizabeth Powers Rhodes.  He is survived by his wife, Wanda Daniels Rhodes; his son, Vic Rhodes (Glee); his daughter, Beth Icard (Joel); his sister, Melba Hamlen; and his three grandchildren, Justin Icard, Jonah Icard, and Shane Rhodes.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Royals and Vivian Bloodsworth.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 10th, at 11:00 a.m. in the M.G. Frazier Memorial Chapel, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.  A private interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.  Rev. Jay Moore will officiate.
