James M. Johnson

James M. Johnson, age 83 of Pitts, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3rd in the Hatley Baptist Church.Reverend James Spires will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Union Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born on June 7, 1934 in Moultrie, Ga.He was son of the late Pope Carlyle Johnson and Alice Pearl Owens Johnson.He was retired Civil Service employee from Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga. and was a member of the Hatley Baptist Church.He was a former greeter at Walmart in Cordele.He served his country with honor in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.He was preceded in death by his wife, Naida Croft Johnson, an infant son, James Johnson, Jr. and a sister, Alice Johnson. Survivors include: sons-James Harrison Johnson of Pitts, Gregory Keith Johnson of Pitts and Steve Malloy Johnson of Leesburg, sisters-Joyce Davis (Alf) of Pitts and Virginia Ruth Hurley of Cumberlin, TN, 9-grandchildren and 1-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday, February 2nd in the funeral home. Judy Wills will play prelude and postlude.The congregation will sing "Amazing Grace" led by Buford Calhoun. Pallbearers are:David Owens, Mike Wright, Johnny, Mike and Grant Davis and Kim Kelley. Frazier and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
