James W. Hawkins

October 28, 1931 — December 18, 2015

James Wilburn Hawkins, age 84 of Rochelle, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2015 in the First Baptist Church of Rochelle. Reverend Nelson Goddard and Reverend Phil West will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Social Hall. Interment will be in the family plot in the Morningside Cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was born on October 28, 1931 in Rochelle, Ga. He was son of the late Lewis E. Hawkins and Edna Johnson Hawkins. He was a farmer and retired Wilcox County Clerk of Superior Court. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle, the Guy Fitzgerald Sunday School Class and the Golden Voices Choir. He was a member of the Wilcox County Farm Bureau and the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Edna Hawkins in 1952, a son, Tommy Hawkins in 1971, and two brothers, Thomas Hawkins and Ethridge Hawkins. Survivors include: wife-Gussie T. Hawkins of Rochelle, sons-Danny (Wanda) Hawkins of Rochelle, Billy (Patsy) Hawkins of Rochelle, Mark (Renee) Hawkins of Greer, S.C., daughter-Cathy (Wayne) Sangster of Pineview, grandchildren-Niesi (Jamie) Ashe of Abbeville, Kimberly (Clay) Wilson of Rebecca, Amanda (B.J.) McDonald of Ashburn, Chad (Rebekah) Hawkins of Rochelle, Steven (Leslie) Hawkins of Greer, S.C., Shelby Sangster of Tifton, Whitney Sangster of Pineview and8-great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be:Mark Hawkins, John McDonald, James Williams, Bland Brooks, Gene McGuire and James Gibbs. Honorary pallbearerswill be: Rochelle Masonic Lodge and Guy Fitzgerald Sunday School Class. Music will be provided by Jan Brown, Norma Jean Wilkerson and the Golden Voices. In Lieu of Flowers , please make donations to one of the following ; Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190, First Baptist Church of Rochelle Building Fund, Friends of Morningside Cemetery.
