James L. Gibbs

James L. “J. L.” Gibbs, age 70 of 1271 2nd Avenue, Rochelle, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at his residence.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 29 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Reverend Ralph Griffin and Reverend Talmadge Wilcox officiating.Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Owensboro Community. Mr. Gibbs was born on May 13, 1940 in Owensboro.He was son of the late Raleigh Vernon Gibbs.He was a retired Civil Service Employee from Robins Air Force Base in the Warehousing Division and a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, the SCV, and the MOS & B.He was a dedicated member of the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190.He was initiated on the 26th of July, 1965 and raised to Master Mason on November 13, 1965.He was voted Worshipful Master of the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 from 1967-1968 and 1995-1996.He has served approximately 15 years as treasurer. He served his country with honor in the United States Army. Survivors include:Wife-Barbara A. Gibbs of Rochelle, mother-Celia R. Gibbs of Rochelle, sons-Scotty L. Gibbs (Crystal Miller) of Fitzgerald and James L. ( Debra) Gibbs, Jr. of Rochelle, daughters-Kay (Mitch) Cornell of Abbeville and Lynn Greene of Abbeville, brother-Raleigh J. Gibbs of Rochelle, 10-grandchildren, 3-great-grandchildren and 1-step-grandson. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, September 28 in the funeral home. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
