Ira McCook, Jr., age 78, of Fitzgerald, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at his residence. He was a retired manager with Davidson Textron, a veteran with the U.S. Army, and an avid outdoorsman who loved to garden. He was a former member of the Bass Tournament at Lake Blackshear, a member of the American Legion, and a Baptist by faith.
Ira was born March 15, 1944, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Ira McCook, Sr. and Annette Buchens McCook. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby and Billy McCook. He is survived by his wife the former Catherine Keen; his sons, Chip (Stefannie) McCook, Stephen McCook, and Hunter McCook; his daughters, Melissa Wright and Amanda (Scott) Blum; his sisters, Peggy Wolfe, and Betty Sturdivan; his grandchildren, Jake (Lauren) McCook, Staff Sgt. Josh (Amanda) McCook, Jesseca (Skylar) Kelly, Jase, Scott Jr., Wyatt, Iree-Kate, Joshua, and Josiah; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Eirikr, James, and the 4 th on the way.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24 th , at 3:00 p.m. in Siloam Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Siloam Cemetery.
