Hal S. Dickson, age 87, of Abbeville, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at his residence.He graduated from Coral Gables High School, Coral Gables, Fla., Stetson University, Deland, Fla., and Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, Ky. He was 28 years old when he became pastor of Abbeville First Baptist Church.He also pastored Sand Grove Baptist Church in Dodge County, and First Ave. Baptist, Rochelle.He was a retired teacher and coach with the Wilcox County School System.Most notably was his spiritual wisdom, his love for the Lord and his family, and his influence in the lives of everyone he met.He loved youth and was a kid at heart.He had a gift for prayer and encouragement, was a good father and a godly man. Hal was born August 3, 1934, in Miami Beach, Florida, to the late John Dewitt Dickson, Jr., and Elise Hook Dickson.He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Schwamb Dickson; and two brothers, Lawrence Robert Dickson and John Dewitt Dickson III. He is survived by his daughters Elise Wells (Randy) of Pineview, and Debbie Dickson McCartney (Michael) of Abbeville; his grandchildren, West Wells (Erin), Josh Wells (Laura), Tara Wells Hall (Michal), Danielle Whitman (Russell), Matthew Whitman, and Teri Wogan (Jamie); his great-grandchildren, Carlyn Wells, Lyla Scott, Fischer Hall, Micah Wells, Hannah Wells, Josiah Wells, Isaiah Wells, Alexis Bridgers, Valorie Whitman, Calleigh Whitman, Emersyn Spires, Evan Spires, Mixie Spires, Daveigh Wade, Chris Wogan (Erica), Michael Anderson (Amber), Terrence L. Wogan II, and Jon Wogan, and his special nephews, Alex Dickson (Julie and Nico), Ivan Dickson, and Hugo Dickson. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1st, at 2:00 p.m. in Abbeville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Chuck Taylor officiating, and Kay Dorsey as pianist.A private interment will be in Stubbs Cemetery.Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
