Gwendolyn T. Parker

October 23, 1931 — October 13, 2024

Alice Gwendolyn (Taylor) Parker, 92, died on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Oak Pointe Senior Care in Winder, GA. She was born on October 23, 1931, in Jacksonville, Florida to Fred and Mozelle Mc Callum Taylor. Her beloved father passed away when she was 8 years old.

Gwen and her mother relocated to Rochelle, Georgia to be near her mother’s family. When Gwen was 14, her mother married a very special man, J. C. Lovett, from Abbeville, Georgia. Gwen was a 1954 University of Georgia Pharmacy Graduate and a member of the AOTT Sorority. While attending Pharmacy School, she met her future husband, Robert Bayne Parker, Jr. (Bobby), and they married in 1954. They moved to Decatur, Georgia and had 3 children: Cynthia, Kristie, and Bayne. One of the milestones of their married life was owning and operating 2 drugstores in Decatur: Parker’s Pharmacy and Parker’s Apothecary. All of their children worked there at some point while in high school and/or college. Throughout their 48 years of marriage, they were active in several churches in the Metro Atlanta area: Ousley United Methodist, Our Shepherd’s Church, and Snellville First Baptist. After Bobby’s death, Gwen relocated to Buford, Georgia and became a member of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia where she volunteered in the Nursing Home Ministry, ministering to the residents. As a woman of deep faith, she was always willing to volunteer by hosting a Bible Study, organizing a fundraiser, or whatever was needed, Gwen could be counted on to step up. Throughout Gwen’s life, she was a very resilient person. She overcame obstacles through her faith and positive attitude.

Gwen is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and stepfather; as well as her loving daughter, Kristie Parker Bond. Gwen is survived by her children and grandchildren: Cynthia Parker; Kristie’s husband, Ronny Bond, and their children Samantha Bond and Kris Bond; Bayne and Betsy Parker and their children Austin Parker and Ansley Parker Martin (Louis). Gwen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know and love her.
