Geraldine Harrington Blackwell, age 89 of Abbeville, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 in the Serenity Place in Dublin . Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church. Reverend Debbie Cone , Reverend Chuck Taylor and Reverend Jonathan Brown will officiate. Interment will be in the Siloam Cemetery. Mrs. Blackwell was born on October 31, 1926 in Milan, Ga. She was daughter of the late Albert Harrington and Florrie Pipkin Harrington. She was taken out of school in 1942 to help her father, who was a sharecropper, work in the field. They also made 300 gallons of syrup. This was not uncommon at these times. In 1942 she was employed at Robins Air Force Base where she met and married her husband, Arthur Blackwell of Blount County, Alabama and later made their home in Abbeville. They later established the business B & B Motors and became known for selling and repairing diesel trucks.She was always his "girl Friday". She was also a retired insurance agent with United Family Life Insurance Co. She had many hobbies such as quilting, sewing and gardening. Although she was in her eighties, she was still planting a garden of mustard and turnips with the help of her gardener. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was the oldest of six children. She is survived by four Children: Lee Blackwell (Joan ) of Rebecca, Jerrell Blackwell (Darlene) Of Abbeville, Marsha Brown (David) of Abbeville and Mike Blackwell (Christy) of Ellija, sisters-Hazel Harrington of Las Vegas, Nevada and Joan Howell of Arabi and one brother-Royce Harrington of Middleburg, Florida, 10-grandchildren, 17-great-grandchildren and 1-great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Saturday, November 7th. in the funeral home. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
