Geneva C. "Gen" Morgan

July 18, 1927 — February 27, 2022

Mrs. Geneva C. "Gen" Morgan, of Abbeville, passed away Sunday February 27, 2022, at her residence. She was the youngest of eight children, born July 18, 1927, into a Christian home, in Madison, Mississippi, to the late John Reuben Clark and Olive Geneva Higginbotham Clark. She grew up on the J.R. Clark Dairy Farm that sold bottled milk, where she helped deliver it door to door from age five. As a teen, she was a member of the 4-H Club, the Girl Reserves (a club to teach manners and morals), and the Epworth League (now the MYP). She received piano, tap dancing, and flute lessons, and was in the High School Marching Band. Gen graduated from High School in 1944, and went to the University of Georgia where she met Dave on campus at the Wesley Foundation Center, and then married him in July of 1946. In August of 1948, David III was born, the first of three sons. When Dave finished his Ag Degree, he entered Law School, passed the Georgia Bar, and then in 1950 they moved to Fitzgerald where he began his Law Practice. In 1951 Gen and Dave moved to Abbeville where she worked in the Morgan Law office, and finished her education at Middle Georgia College in Cochran. She was employed as Director of the Heart of Georgia Community Action Office for Wilcox County, and later served as Program Planner for the nine-county agency. She then became the Executive Secretary to the Director of the agency. Gen is a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church, past president of the UMW, a substitute teacher in Sunday School, and past secretary to the UDC. She is a former member of the Senior Rainbow Sunday School Class, the 1st Monday Prayer Circle, the Lions Club, and past president and vice president of the Optimist Club. She and Dave were charter member of the Ocmulgee Swamp Stompers, a square dance club, and was also a charter member of the Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival Corp. that planned and sponsored the annual Wild Hog Festival for sixteen years. Gen was a Pink Lady with the Dorminy Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Fitzgerald, and a certified Red Cross Blood Bank worker. She served as a District Officer in the American District of the South Georgia Methodist Conference for eight years. She once held the position of Lt. Governor of Zone 15, Georgia District-International Optimist organization, where they planned programs and acquired resources for the children and youth of our communities to encourage respect for the law and become good citizens. She had a great love for music, passing it on to her three sons, David, Reuben, and Ben. Her favorites were Easter and Christmas music, Elvis, Pavorotti, and her sons' CDs. Reuben is a musician in Daytona, FL, and Ben was a music teacher in Columbus, and plays keyboard for the Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church there in Columbus. Gen has participated in the Arts Council concerts, played flute in the Arts Council Band, and was a member of her church choir. After Dave's death in 1987, she continued working for her son in the Morgan Law Office. She enjoyed traveling in the "80s" and "90s" to the Holy Land and made bus tours in the U.S. and Canada. In 2005 she made her first and only cruise for a week to the Caribbean Islands in Porta Rico. She is survived by her sons, David E. Morgan III (Susan) of Abbeville, Reuben Morgan of Ormond Beach, FL, and Ben Morgan (Teresa) of Columbus; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
