Emery E. Mathews, age 81 of Pitts, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 in the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 8th in the Pitts Baptist Church.Visitation will be one hour before the service at 10:00 AM in the church.Reverend Royce Freeman and Reverend Bill Kent will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Morningside Cemetery. Mr. Mathews was born on December 10, 1931 in Ashburn, Ga.He was son of the late Emery Edward Mathews and Annie Calline Perry Mathews.He was retired Owner/Operator of Economy Gas Company for 35 years.He was a member of Pitts Baptist Church. Survivors include:wife-Liz Nobles Mathews of Pitts, step-son-Sam (Cheryl) Mashburn of Rochelle, step-daughter-Fanilu (Dale) Eason of Rochelle, 3 sisters-Ann Wood of Montrose, Hazel Judge of Cordele and Flora Rooks of Ashburn, 4-step-grandchildren and 3-step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his pet dog, Mitzi. Pallbearers are:Active-Chris Eason, Donovan Eason, Matthew Mashburn, Edward Rooks, Shawn Wood and Chester Holt.Honorary are:Clint Oliver, Homer Lee Conner, Sr., Jackie Clements, Morris Holloway, Trey McBryant, Darrell McBryant, Jackie Guest and Steve Crawford. Prelude and postlude will be played by Alex Clements and he will sing, “Sheltered in the Arms of God” and “Beauland Land”.Amazing Grace will be played as family is going out. Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle is in charge of arrangements.
