Delma Elbert “Dock” Cantrell, age 95 of Pitts, Ga., passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Autumn Leaves assisted living facility in Austin, Tx.Visitation will be held in the Pitts Church of God from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Saturday July 22 before the Funeral Service begins at 10:00 AM with Reverend Danny Rhodes officiating.A brief graveside service will follow at the Pitts Cemetery. Mr. Dock was born on March 26, 1922 in Pitts, son of the late Horace Elbert Cantrell and Camilla Marie Calhoun Cantrell.In 1942 he married the former Ruth Reed in Vienna, Ga.From boyhood to retirement he farmed cotton, corn, and peanuts.As a life-long member of the Pitts Church of God, Mr. Dock was a devoted Christian, the Church sound technician, and an avid student in the Adult Sunday School Classes.He loved gospel music, singing and playing guitar while Miss Ruth played piano with the Gospel Echoes for 31 years (1979-2010) in 13 states.He and Miss Ruth also played with the Melody Makers in the 1970’s and the Dixie Rhythm in the 1960’s.Mr. Dock enjoyed hunting, fishing, and savoring Miss Ruth’s superlative Southern cooking.He was preceded in death by Miss Ruth and their only child, Dottie Ann Cantrell McEuen. Mr. Dock is survived by son-in-law Emory L. McEuen; granddaughter Holly Cullins and husband Mark Cullins; great-grandsons Eli (11) and Evan (8) Cullins; grandson Glen McEuen and wife Ana McEuen; and great-granddaughters Emory Katherine (6), Arden (4) and Cora (1) McEuen. “The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”1 Peter 1:24-25 (ESV).Thus, rather than honoring Mr. Dock with flowers that fall, the family suggests longer-lasting and higher honor may be given through contributions in his memory to the Pitts Church of God Benevolent Fund, P.O.
