Charles D. Walker, age 75, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, October 16, 2021.He was born in Ashburn, Georgia.His parents were Dan and Willie Ruth Walker of Ashburn, Georgia.He graduated from Turner County High School in 1966, Middle Georgia College, and Georgia Southwestern University. Charles served in the United States Army for two years.He was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country. He retired from Harris Group in Cordele, Georgia after 32 years where he held the positions of Assistant Controller, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer.He also taught accounting at Georgia Southwestern Technical School.After retiring from Harris Group, he held the positions of Director of Solid Waste, City Manager of Unadilla, and Controller of IPS Balers. He was a member of the Crisp County Chamber of Commerce and the Cordele Kiwanis Club. Charles was a member and Deacon of Union Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, and Brotherhood Director.He was baptized at Union Baptist Church.He enjoyed serving as a Gideon of Wilcox County where he was a speaker for the Gideons and served as Vice President and Treasurer of Gideon's International. One of the positions he held and one of which he was so proud was Director of Union Family Ministry Center. The volunteers, customers, and donors of the ministry center always held a special place in Charles's heart. He enjoyed every minute he spent with his family.Charles had a very small family of his own when he married.The McClain family became his family.It was his delight to have all the family over to eat, swim, and spend time at the "Pool House."He taught many of his nieces and nephews, as well as his children, to swim.Charles enjoyed fishing, camping, and grilling. One of his greatest pleasures was traveling with his wife, Diane, after retirement. He is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in -law, Robert and Sadie McClain.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane McClain Walker, and their children, Dawn (Nathan) Gibbs of Rochelle, Dana (Tony) Barnard of Pitts, and Rob Walker of Pitts;his grandchildren, Gracey and Noah Gibbs, Logan and Bailee Barnard. Visitation will be held at Union Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 2:00 PM.Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Larry Wilbanks and Rev. Eddie Wilcox officiating.Nathan Gibbs will provide the eulogy.Interment will be officiated by Rev. Quillian Barfield at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gage Anderson, Cameron Clark, Nelson Clements, Tyler Dorman, Colton Farrow, Greyson Farrow, Jason McDuffie, Clint Oliver, and Brian Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers:Bobby Brown, Rex Bullock, Al Crenshaw, Darfus Holcomb, Dr. H. W. Hopper, Wes Hopper, Jerry Rhodes, Russell Sutton, and Gene Tomberlin. Frazier and Son Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
