Charles “Buck” Cannon, age 83 of Abbeville, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.. Friday, June 24 in the Abbeville United Methodist Church.Reverend Debbie Cone and Reverend Gary Carter will officiate.Interment will be in the family plot in the Stubbs Cemetery. Mr. Cannon was born on January 21, 1928 in Abbeville.He was the son of the late Earl Mayes Cannon and Gladys Dunaway Cannon.He was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church where he was very active in church functions for many years.He was a 1948 graduate of Georgia Tech and he and his brother Earl Cannon, Jr. farmed together from 1954-1987.He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include: his wife of 49 years-Margie Smith Cannon of Abbeville, son-Jimmy (Jennifer) Cannon of Abbeville, daughter-Ellen (John) Mizio of Tampa, sister-Beth Love of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren-Christopher and Clareine Cannon both of Abbeville and several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Abbeville UMC Building Fund, 233 South Broad St., Abbeville, Ga. 31001 or the Stubbs Cemetery Fund, C/O Carol Culpepper, 113 Riverside Drive, Abbeville, Ga. 31001.
