ROCHELLE- Cecil W. Wood, 101, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009.He was preceded in death by his wife, Leila Rogers Wood, son Rogers W. Wood, daughter-Ramona Wood, sisters-Mildred Wright and Mina Rabon, and brother-Douglas Wood.He was born in Dooly County, Georgia on June 23, 1907 to Minor Wood and Edna Noble Wood.A retired farmer, Mr. Wood had lived in Wilcox County since the 1930’s.He served the City of Rochelle as city councilman during the 1950’s and 60’s and served as mayor from 1968-1973.He was previously County Chairman of the Democratic Party for Wilcox County and also served on the Wilcox County Library Board.Mr. Wood enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals.He moved his family to Rochelle in 1938 to establish a mule trading business.He is survived by two sons, Don (Toni) Wood of Rochelle and Sammy (Beverly) Wood of Bogart.Survivors include one sister, Virlyn Ward of Cordele, Georgia, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Mr. Wood was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle and a member of the Guy Fitzgerald Sunday School Class.Funeral services will be on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Rochelle.Interment will follow in the Morningside Cemetery.Visitation will be at the Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
