Brooks was born a century ago on November 13, 1916 at her homestead in Wilcox County to the late Joe D Whittle and Ginny Wisham Whittle.During her 100 years of life, she was a strong Christian woman that made sure that her large family knew that God was her personal Lord and Savior. She was married to the love of her life, William Thomas “Bill” Martin, Sr., at the age of 17.Together they raised six children on the family farm. She was a wonderful seamstress, who enjoyed quilting especially for all of her grandchildren. Some of her favorite past times were traveling the United States, fishing in the family ponds, watching the space shuttle blast off in-person at Cape Canaveral, gardening, and visiting with family at fish fries. She felt like her greatest accomplishment was successfully reading and studying the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation several times during her life. She lived her life by example always putting faith and family first. To her family, she was the closest thing to a Saint that one could meet in this world. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Joanne (Gene) Funderburke of Macon, Jimmy (Peggy) Martin of Pitts, Louve (Gwendell) McSwain of Gray, and daughter-in-law Lib Martin; one sister, Lottie Tyler.Grandchildren, JoyceAnn Faircloth, Brenda Faircloth, Buddy (Melanie) Faircloth,Susan (Don) Peterson, Denise (John) Hunt, Donna (Wayne) Coats, Dawn (Michael) Dickins, Melissa Lee, Julie (Adam) Newman, Laura (Trey) Goff, Jennifer (Todd) Brown, Amie (Terry) Talcott, Jason (Tracy) McSwain; numerous Great-grandchildren, Great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three children; Billie Lee Faircloth, Sandra Smith, and W.T. “Dub” Martin, Jr. and her brothers Elmer and Milton Whittle, and her sister Faustine Yarborough. It is with deepest sadness and much love that Brooks’ family says goodbye to such a wonderful, inspiring woman.
