Barbara D. Jackson

Barbara D. Jackson, age 80, of Rochelle, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at her residence.  She was a 1960 graduate of Ringgold High School, and received her B.S. Home Economics Degree from the University of Georgia in 1965.  She served her Dietetic Internship at the Medical College of Virginia in 1966, and received her Masters of Public Administration Degree from Georgia College and State University in 1987.  She was employed as a Dietician with Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, from 1966-1969, and with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, from 1969-1971.  She then worked with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service – Wilcox County Home Economist from 1972-1987, then with the Dooly County School System as the School Nutrition Director from 1987-2001, when she retired.  She enjoyed sewing, camping, traveling, and cooking, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochelle and the Agape Sunday School Class.

Barbara was born October 22, 1942, in Nashville, TN, to the late Dennis and Annie Dover.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jackson; her son, Dolton Smith; a sister, Mary Humphries; and a brother, Jerry Dover.

Survivors include her daughter, Leigh Anne Cooper (Dennis); she was “Neena” to her grandchildren, Bailey Clements, Haven Clements, Clayton Cooper (Ricki), Kyle Cooper, and Jacob Cooper (Michelle); her great-grandchildren, Chloee Dupree (Nolan), Sissy Cooper, Kylie Cooper, Cody Cooper, Brayden Wright, Camden Morgan, and Mason Cooper; and her beloved baby (dog) Ruby.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 16 ^th , at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Rochelle, with Pastor Richard Compton and Pastor Dewain Joiner officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Friends of Morningside Cemetery Trust Fund, P.O. Box 156, Rochelle, GA 31079, or to a favorite charity.

The family will be at the residence of Leigh Anne and Dennis Cooper, 520 Branch Rd., Rochelle, GA 31079.
